No matter the season, North Lake Tahoe boasts incredible recreation opportunities and plenty of adventures to be had!
Winter weather highlights world-class ski resorts, (take advantage of great offerings with snowboard and ski rentals), snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and more. Families also love nearby snow parks with their sledding and tubing hills. Or, go ice skating with that special someone and sip a hot toddy overlooking the lake.
Summer recreation offers a completely different kind of fun! Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River welcome you with beaches galore, where you can picnic, sunbathe and swim. Many places on the lake offer watercraft and boat rentals, boat cruises, and tour guides. Charter a fishing expedition and catch the biggest fish in the lake. Go "fore" it and try one of the many challenging golf courses. Rent a bike and explore hundreds of trails. North Lake Tahoe hiking trails lead to amazing views of the lake, river, and surrounding mountains, and can be explored on foot, mountain bike, or horseback. And of course, if you are looking for something a little more relaxing, you can retreat to one of the numerous spas or venture into town to do a little mountain shopping.
Skiing On The Slopes
Closest to world-class skiing at Squaw Valley USA and Alpine Meadows, the River Ranch welcome skiers and boarders. Or, strap on your snowshoes and find the Truckee River trail north to Squaw or south to Tahoe City. The River Ranch is also close to excellent cross-country ski trails and the wild backcountry. Relax and enjoy a cocktail in our popular aprés ski fireplace lounge, or fuel up with food and friends in our cozy, lively restaurant.
Rafting On The River
Rafting on the Truckee River is an exciting and memorable activity for the whole family, including the dog! When conditions allow, you can enjoy a 2-4 hour float from Tahoe City to the River Ranch, and then gather on the patio for lunch and drinks post-float! Call one of the raft companies May-September for rates and more information!
Biking On The Banks (and trails)
A leisurely bike ride along the river is one of the best activities in North Tahoe! Ditch the car while staying at the River Ranch, as we are centrally located between Tahoe City and Squaw Valley. The bike path is paved, offering a mostly flat and level ride, perfect for the whole family and just 3.5 miles in either direction. The bike path also extends down the West Shore of Lake Tahoe and across the North Shore. Many bike rental concessions are available in the area as well.
